Since 1979 Goat Lake has provided its customers with the highest quality red cedar shakes and shingles as well as wood building material. Located in scenic Powell River, Goat Lake serves construction contractors, importers, distributors, and timber merchants around the globe.
Started as primarily a shake blocking company, Goat Lake has steadily grown throughout
the years. Now the main company of the Goat Group of Companies, Goat Lake has proven
its staying power. The quality of products produced by Goat Lake has been the major
selling-
It is now considered one of the most successful companies in Powell River. Goat Lake was awarded the prestigious Large Business of the Year award by the Powell River Chamber of Commerce. With a commitment to environmental responsibility and community involvement, Goat Lake is a fine example of a successful forestry company.
Goat Lake employs about 50 employees making it the 2nd biggest forestry employer in the Powell River area. Owners Rory Maitland and Howie McKamey believe that a community based hiring program is essential to the success of their company.
Community Involvement
Goat Lake believes in contributing to create a strong sense of community. In recent years, Goat Lake has:
- been a major financial contributor to the Powell River Kings hockey club;
- volunteered time, services and equipment to lift out an old Steam Donkey from Powell Lake for the Powell River Forestry Museum
- sponsored different community events, such as the Loon Lake Race
