ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome to Goat Lake's website. We invite you to explore our site and see what we have to offer. We ship our products WORLDWIDE!

Goat Lake Forest Products has been beautifying its customer's homes since 1979. Goat Lake's shakes and shingles are cut from Western red cedar, the most durable of wood species. Western red cedar contains natural oils that prevent decay, so cedar shakes and shingles are a great choice for a lasting investment. Typical roofing warranties are between 20 and 50 years.

Shakes and shingles are also environmentally responsible. Nearly a 100% of logging production goes either into lumber, shakes and shingles or provides the fuel to run the mills that make those products. Wood is the only major building product that is renewable.

After harvest, logs are barged to the mill, where they are graded and selected for shakes (taper-sawn, hand-split or resawn) or shingle. To learn more about the harvesting process, from forest to roof, see the process page.

There are many advantages to shakes and shingles:

  • red cedar has a high resistance to thermal loss, so it keeps your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
  • the interwoven application of shakes and shingles help to hold the roof together in an earthquake
  • since air is allowed to flow freely around the wood, mold growth is prevented
  • shakes & shingles can have a preservative treatment that extends the natural durability 2-3X
  • a properly installed and maintained cedar product roof can last from 20-50 years
  • wood is highly resilient in earthquakes
  • shakes and shingles provide low energy cost and high insulation value
  • fire retardant product available
  • wood roofing survives hurricane force winds
  • wood is a renewable resource
